I remember a few years ago, when I moved from an apartment to a house, I was faced with moving numerous items, just like most relocating individuals – furniture being no exception.
At that time, I couldn’t access cargo vehicles, such as cargo vans or pickup trucks. Instead, I had a minivan, which, as it turned out, was quite reliable for moving needs.
One piece of furniture I needed to transport was a desk, which I needed immediately in my new home due to work demands. Fortunately, with a few adjustments, I could load my desk (and gaming table) into the minivan and transport it safely to my new residence.

So, can you fit a desk into a car?
A standard-sized desk should be able to fit into a car, although you may need to make some adjustments, such as removing a table leg. Of course, not all cars can accommodate a desk. However, most hatchbacks, SUVs, and minivans have enough space to fit a small to medium-sized desk without a problem. For larger desks, pickup trucks or cargo vans may be more suitable.

Various Types of Desks and Their Dimensions
Standard-size tables are usually 29 to 30 inches tall. Width varies, but most tables measure around 48, 60, or 72 inches, with a depth of 30 to 36 inches.

Standard Office Desk
Standard-size office desks typically aren’t too large. They usually stand about 70 to 75 centimeters tall. The width varies, often measuring 120, 150, or 180 centimeters with an approximate depth of 70 centimeters.
Office desks can also commonly be found in an L-shape. The dimensions in terms of height, width, and depth aren’t much different from standard tables. However, due to the L-shape, the overall dimensions can be larger.
Standing Desk
Essentially, a standing desk maintains the same width and depth as a standard desk. However, since it’s utilized in a standing position, its height is considerably taller, generally around 110-120 centimeters.
Standing desks are typically height-adjustable; some are equipped with electric motors, allowing height adjustment at the simple button press.
Moreover, standing desks can be easily disassembled, a feature that proves immensely useful when you need to fit them into your vehicle during a move.
Dining Table
The size of a dining table can vary, typically ranging from 90 to 160 centimeters in width, with a standard height of about 75 centimeters. A common width is usually between 91 and 102 centimeters, accommodating two people comfortably. A larger dining table, intended for four individuals, usually spans up to 120 centimeters in width. Meanwhile, a dining table measuring 160 centimeters can accommodate up to 6 adults.
Gaming Desk
In recent years, the popularity of gaming tables has skyrocketed, paralleling the rise in the number of gamers and streamers. To enhance comfort during play, gamers often acquire a special table specifically for gaming.
The size resembles a standard table but includes several ergonomic features to boost comfort. The height of a gaming table can usually be adjusted to meet individual needs, ranging from 70-85 centimeters. While the width varies, it is typically at least 120 centimeters, and the depth sits at about 80 centimeters, often featuring a narrowed center that forms a hollow (though this is not universal).
Coffee Table
This type of table is the most likely and easiest to fit in a car, even a small one.
Coffee tables come in a variety of shapes, with square and round being the most common. Their size is significantly smaller than a standard table, standing only about 40 centimeters high and measuring about 60 to 90 centimeters in width.
It’s important to note that furniture construction can be divided into two types: fully assembled and knock-down or flat pack. If your table is a flat pack, you can disassemble it to make transportation easier. Otherwise, you’ll need a vehicle with larger cargo space in case your car doesn’t suffice.
Which Type of Car Would Be Able to Fit a Table?
We know that the cargo capacity varies from one vehicle to another. Ideally, you’ll need a vehicle with ample cargo capacity to transport a table.
UVs, station wagons, and minivans are typically the most likely vehicle models to satisfy the need for adequate cargo space for a table.
On the other hand, a sedan, like the Prius, or a hatchback, like the VW Golf, can also suffice, provided the table is small, like a coffee table, or you can disassemble it. This is where flat-pack furniture becomes quite handy.
For large tables that cannot be disassembled, it looks like you need a more proper vehicle, such as a pickup truck or cargo van.
